Become a KDO Substitute Teacher
(Tuesday & Thursday)

We are looking for dependable, caring, and enthusiastic individuals who view working with children as an opportunity to serve, encourage, and demonstrate Christ’s love. KDO substitute teachers help create a safe, nurturing, and Christ-centered environment where children are valued, respected, and cared for.

Our Christian Principles
KDO is committed to creating an environment that reflects biblical values and the love of Jesus Christ. Substitute teachers are expected to:

• Love and value every child — Treat each child with dignity, patience, kindness, and compassion.
• Lead by example — Demonstrate Christ-like character through words, attitudes, actions, and interactions with others.
• Practice patience and self-control — Respond to challenging situations calmly and respectfully.
• Show kindness and encouragement — Use words that build children up rather than tear them down.
• Serve with humility — Understand that caring for children is both a responsibility and an opportunity to serve families and the church.
• Demonstrate integrity — Be honest, trustworthy, dependable, and faithful in carrying out responsibilities.
• Respect parents and families — Communicate with families professionally and honor the role of parents as the primary caregivers of their children.
• Practice forgiveness and grace — Help children learn appropriate ways to handle mistakes, conflict, and difficult emotions.
• Protect the dignity and safety of every child — Maintain appropriate boundaries, confidentiality, and safe supervision.
• Work together in unity — Respect KDO leadership, classroom teachers, coworkers, and established policies and procedures.

Biblical Foundation
Our approach to caring for children is grounded in Scripture:

“Let all that you do be done in love.” — 1 Corinthians 16:14
“Do to others as you would have them do to you.” — Luke 6:31
“And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men.” — Colossians 3:23
“Be kind and compassionate to one another.” — Ephesians 4:32

We believe that even the everyday responsibilities of caring for a child—comforting a crying child, helping a child learn, resolving a disagreement, cleaning a classroom, or welcoming a family—can be opportunities to demonstrate Christ-like love and servant leadership.

What We’re Looking For (Our ideal substitute teacher):

• Has a genuine love for children
• Is dependable, punctual, and responsible
• Demonstrates Christian character and integrity
• Is comfortable serving in a Christian childcare environment
• Can model patience, kindness, respect, and self-control
• Is willing to pray with or participate in age-appropriate Christian activities when directed by KDO
• Can work cooperatively with teachers, staff, families, and church leadership
• Is willing to follow KDO policies and established classroom expectations
• Has previous experience with children, teaching, childcare, or children's ministry preferred, but not required

 Applicants will be asked to provide:

• Basic contact information
• Availability and preferred days to substitute
• Previous childcare, teaching, church, or volunteer experience
• Education and relevant training
• CPR/First Aid certification, if applicable
• Employment history
• Professional references
• Responses to questions about working with children
• Required background and screening information
• Before Serving as a Substitute
• All substitute teachers must complete the required KDO onboarding process, including applicable background checks, required training, orientation, and documentation before serving in the classroom.

• Follow established classroom routines and schedules
• Use positive, age-appropriate guidance and discipline
• Speak to children with patience, kindness, and respect
• Maintain appropriate professional boundaries
• Maintain confidentiality regarding children and families
• Follow KDO health, safety, discipline, and emergency procedures
• Respect and support KDO leadership and classroom teachers
• Represent Christ, the church, and KDO with professionalism and integrity
